The Royal Birds
Greetings, my name is Angel. My mother is a tangerine pearl dove and
my father is a white dove. You could say that I am a hybrid. At first glance, I look all white but if you look closer I am slightly apricot colored, thanks to my mom. I even have a white ring around my neck that looks like a string of pearls. I am very sweet, intelligent and a good influence on Princess when she gets huffy.
For centuries doves like me have been a symbol of peace, gentleness and love. Although I can fly, I am a seed eater and prefer to spend most of my time walking around my aviary looking for my favorite seeds. Did you know we are the only type of bird that can drink water without tilting back our heads to swallow?
Hello, my name is Princess. I am a pied ringneck dove. You can recognize me by my brown and white feathers and a ring of dark brown (almost black) circling around my neck and open in the front. I like to think of it as my black diamond necklace. I can be bossy at times and have a reputation for getting my feathers ruffled. You many notice that
I often huff and puff when I get excited.
If you thought I was a pigeon, you are half right, the only clear distinction between us is size. I’m sure you would agree that for being small pigeons, we are quite attractive and elegant. Like most birds, we prefer to live outside and enjoy the changing of the seasons.
